Laurie DeMarco is a licensed clinical social worker with a unique combination of compassionate understanding and relevant experience which she brings to her practice. She worked extensively with Dallas Independent School District Youth and Family Centers, providing mental health therapy to children and families dealing with issues such as anxiety, sadness, self injury, conflict, bullying, impulsivity, aggression, poor academic performance, grief and loss, divorce adjustment, and trauma. She also spent 20 years working professionally in hospice care, counseling the dying and their bereaved families. In addition, her background includes work in maternal and child health and parenting, with special expertise in perinatal loss. Over the years, she has provided supervision to students and professionals, taught many workshops on grief, healing, and adjustment, and facilitated support groups for the public.
Ms.
DeMarco incorporates the use of play and the creative arts in her trauma-informed practice as tools to encourage the healthy expression and regulation of
emotions. Her approach is to consider family therapy as a crucial
element in achieving results for the individual. She has been involved
with child development, relationship, and family issues in many
capacities over the years, both as counselor and client advocate, and
with the rearing of her own four children. She recognizes the
difficulties facing today’s individuals and families, and acknowledges
the courage it takes to explore painful issues. Ms. DeMarco is committed
to developing productive and collaborative treatment plans with each of
her clients, in order to identify areas for improvement and effectively
facilitate positive change and emotional growth.
